OFF COLOR DERBY

The first ever OFF COLOR DERBY was held last night (Dec 10) at the San Mateo Cockpit in Rizal. This pioneering event was hosted by Joel Sumanghid (jlbs72) and assisted by Pit Owner Chito Liamzon (chili_SM). The event is a 2 cock affair which featured 34 entries. Despite the continous rains, the derby was well attended. Three entries emerged as Champions, namely, SUN HAVEN of Paolo Malvar (malviolo), RIO TINTO of Princess Naldo( Golden Dragon) and ONING the CAT (oning_the_cat). I dont know the name behind oning’s handle  My good friend Al Martija (gamecock96) with his MALARAYAT entry almost made the championship by scoring 1.5 wins. This early jlbs72 is already planning a sequel to this unique event.

We will post some of the fights in the VIDEO CLIPS SECTIONS at the Sabongworld Forums later.Click images to enlarge. BTW we ecnourage you to post your comments and below, just click the link “comments”

BAKBAKAN 2006 UPDATES

Heard this from the Public Announcements at Araneta last night: Those who fought last Tuesday 22 November and 24 November and have gotten 4 and 4.5 points total will fight participate in the semi-finals on Sunday 27 November at the SAN JUAN COLISEUM. Submission of weights will be on Saturday at the ARANETA COLISEUM.

The finals will be on Monday 28 November at Araneta. So there you are. Looks like that this series has gone beyond the organizer’s expectation. The last time I heard they had more than 800 entries and have refused a lot of would be entries who were late in submitting their entry details. They got San Juan as an alternative venue because it is logistically and humanly impossible for them to hold the semis and finals for three consecutive days Sat, Sun and Mon. Note that the fights start as early as 11am and end as late as 5 PM. On average they have 120 fights. Last nights card was 138 fights!

Got the chance to watch several fights last night. Worth noting was fight #52 between EDL Excellence of Doc Ayong Lorenzo and Sagupaan Complexor of Patrick Antonio. Doc Ayong as expected was on the WALA side, his stag looks like one of his Dink Fair Sweater while on the MERON side was PA himself handling his fowl. PA was using a Grey green legged mean looking stag which was GFBAN banded, i just don’t know who owns the stag. Anyway, the odds were immediately called at “LO TRES” in favor of PA, then eventually the odds were al “SAMPU ANIM” which means your 6 pesos wins 10 pesos …….. you know what happened??? The odds should have been called the other way around since PA’s fowl was immediately hit by a fatal frontal blow upon landing on the first break. The shouts and hoots from the Dehadista afficionados was so loud that I thought my eardrums broke.. Well for that night it was the only underdog bet that won in such a glorious fashion. For me that was one hell of a fight.

GOOD NEWS!

Through the assistance and intercession of Mr. Boy Marzo, the CYBERFRIENDS has gotten the approval of Mr. Jorge “Nene” Araneta to hold the Cyberfriends Global derby at the Big Dome this coming January 24, 2006.

This event will come at the heels of the 2006 World Slasher Derby which will be concluded on Jan 21, 2006, as such this event is expected to attract balikbayan afficionados on sabong vacation and local enthusiasts.
